Select which iOS apps to back up

Many iOS apps automatically back up data in iCloud. You can increase available iCloud storage space by backing up only some apps’ data.

Note: If iCloud doesn’t back up an app, it doesn’t back up any of the app’s data. If you later restore your iOS device, the app can be reinstalled but its data can’t be restored if it wasn’t backed up.

Turn backup on or off for specific apps

  1. On your iOS device, go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage.

  2. Tap the name of your iOS device, then under Backup Options, turn Backup for each app on or off.

The amount of iCloud storage each app uses is shown below each app in the list.

The apps list may be abbreviated. Tap Show All Apps to see a complete list.

Some Apple apps, such as Messages and Voice Memos, back up data in iCloud but aren’t included in the list of apps. You can only turn off backup for listed apps.
